THE MAHONES

From an Irish pub to an Academy Award winning movie: The Mahones have come a long way in 25 years! Heralded as pioneers of the Irish punk scene, and internationally recognized as one of the best and hardest working punk outfits around, The Mahones formed on St. Patrick's Day in 1990, and have been working on their own brand of Irish punk ever since. With a working class ethic and a love of classic punk, Finny McConnell formed the band to combine his love of punk rock and his Irish culture.

The Mahones are comprised of McConnell (lead vocals/guitar/mandolin), Katie Kaboom (accordion/keyboards/mandolin/vocals), Sean Winter (banjo/mandolin/harmonica/vocals), Sean "Riot" Ryan (bass guitar/vocals), Michael O'Grady (accordion/tin whistle/guitar/vocals) and Scruffy Wallace (bagpipes/tin whistle/guitar/vocals) who has re-joined the band after spending 2003-2015 with Dropkick Murphys.

The Mahones pedigree is strong and their accolades are many. Their hit song "Paint The Town Red" was featured in the climactic final fight scene of the 2 x Academy Award-winning film The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg.

Simon Townshend (The Who), Dave Baksh (Sum 41), and Tony Duggins (The Tossers) all had guest appearances on The Mahones release of The Hunger & The Fight (Part One), a tribute to the band's Irish ancestry, containing both original and traditional Irish folk songs

Ken Casey (Dropkick Murphys), Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), and Greg Keelor (Blue Rodeo) all appeared on their album Angels & Devils. That album ended up becoming the winner of Best Irish Punk Album of 2012 by Irish Punk authorities such as Shite N Onions (USA), Paddy Rock Radio (USA), punk.ie (Ireland) and Vandala Concepts (Canada).

In 2016, The Mahones are now celebrating the band's 25th anniversary - a huge milestone - and have recorded new versions of their classic punk and folk songs for re-release.

With songs that have become the essential soundtrack to every punk, young and old, The Mahones have found themselves growing with every year, and are now headlining major festivals around the world, and sharing the stage with their musical heroes. The Mahones are proud to have a long list of TV (Lost Girl, Castle, Killjoys) and movie appearances (The Fighter, Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy, Celtic Pride, Dog Park) from their growing repertoire of Irish punk classics.

For the past 25 years, The Mahones have released a slew of successful albums, and are world-renowned for an energy-packed, electrifying live show that has garnered them a worldwide base of dedicated fans.

Now, together with their new US label, Sailor's Grave Records, the band is revisiting and re-recording some of their most beloved songs from the last two decades and half for the release of 25 Years of Irish Punk!
